Best Practices for Storing Your Motorhome Safely

When storing your motorhome, it’s important to choose a secure, level location that protects it from weather and environmental damage, whether that’s an indoor facility or a well-drained outdoor space with minimal sun and tree exposure.

Before storage, inspect the roof, windows, and seals for leaks, clean and fully dry the interior, and take steps to control moisture to prevent mold and odors. Make sure the fuel tank is topped off with a stabilizer if it will sit for an extended period, tires are properly inflated and protected from UV damage, and batteries are disconnected or maintained with a trickle charger. You should also empty water systems in cold climates to avoid freezing damage, secure awnings and slide-outs, and take precautions against rodents by sealing entry points and removing food. Finally, when storing your motorhome, confirm your insurance coverage, document the motorhome’s condition, and do a final walk-around to ensure everything is closed, secured, and ready to sit safely until your next trip.
